Ah, the Modi baiters: those English journalists and the
self-proclaimed protectors of Indian communal amity! How
they must be trying to clean up the egg on their face
and invent new excuses for the thumping victory, the Bharatiya
Janata Party secured in the recent Ahmedabad civic polls!
Any rational individual with open eyes can see the
special negative treatment meted out to people who dare
to talk openly about any form of Hindu resurgence. They
are classified immediately under the rabid group of
communalists, whose singular aim is to destroy the "secular
fabric" of India. It's okay for the Laloos and the Mulayms to stoke casteist
sentiments among their potential voters. It's okay for
people like Bhuta Singh to subvert the constitution
on a daily basis. It's okay for Andhra Pradesh's chief
minister, Dr. Y. Samuel Rajasekhara Reddy to offer a
5 % reservation in government jobs to the "oppressed"
Muslims. (As if they are the only oppressed group in
the Indian society and as if awarding a 5% quota would
put them back on their feet in no time.) But it's not
okay to talk about pragmatic things like having a uniform
civil code or repealing article 370 in the Indian constitution
that removes the special status, the state of Jammu
and Kashmir enjoys now, which prevents it from joining
the mainstream Bharat. Who is trying to use the British tactics of "Divide
and Rule" more effectively? The Sangh Parivar or
the "secularists?" In their zeal to make sure
the specter of Hindu communalism never rises, the "secularists"
have gone out of their way, nay, have lost their way,
by solely attacking Hindutva and deliberately ignoring
every sin committed by the "secularist" camp. So, why did the voters give the thumbs-up to Mr. Modi?
Wasn't he a vicious demagogue who let Gujarat burn when
innocent Muslims were killed? (Of course, the media
always conveniently forgets the fact that it happened
after the brutal murder of fifty-six kar sevaks who
were incinerated in the train they were traveling, but
then again in the eyes of our "secular" elite,
fifty-six persons are much much fewer than the two thousand
who died in the riots as an aftermath.) May be all Ahmedabadis are fascists? Could that be
an explanation? (Surely, the English Media must now
be giving up on the Gujaratis who seem to ignore the
invective they heap on Mr. Modi.) That explanation is feasible only if you think all Mr.
Modi has been doing in the last few years is rabble-rousing,
as the English Media would like you to believe. But Mr.
Modi has been busy with other things like working on the
development of his state, un-recognized by our intellectual
elite. Make no mistake. Gujarat is flourishing.
It stands fourth in the states that contribute most
to the national GDP (about Rs1.03 trillion). It's one
of the most attractive destinations for foreign investment
in India and it's treading Kerala's path of providing
education to everybody in the state. The English Media says, none of this is because of Mr.
Modi. It's the resilient people of Gujarat who are making
this all possible. Even accepting that at face value for
a moment, aren't these the same people who have been voting
Mr. Modi to power again and again? If the journalists have enough guts, they should come
forward and say that majority of the Gujaratis are communal. All right, you say. It's possible
the English Media is only focused on the negative qualities
of Mr. Modi. But you argue that when you take a stand,
when you have a strong conviction, sometimes you see
things in black and white. Even the pro Sangh journos
do that. Right? Wrong! When these same scribes wrote about the relief
efforts in the earth quake hit POK (Pakistan Occupied
Kashmir), they didn't miss a chance to point out that
Jihadis were the first to arrive at scenes of chaos
and help people out with food and other supplies. They
even carried interviews with the local people who claimed
they were so "impressed" with the Jihadis,
that some of them were considering joining them after
the dust settles down. What a free publicity for the
Jihadis! They must love our media. As I wrote in my other articles, when Sanghis, meaning
people of the RSS, VHP, Bajarang Dal and BJP ilk, do the
same thing in similar situations, there's a pin-drop silence
on the subject. If this is not a double standard, tell
me what is! I said the English Media bit the
dust when Mr. Modi was elected to a second term of power
despite all its poisonous propaganda. I take that back
now. English media were never in a position to bite
dust. They were, are, and always will be in the gutter
where they belong.
