US..the land of opportunities. which it sure is, but ONLY if this capitalistic state can find its Economy going Northward. Recently we are witnessing which most analyst predict comes once in a while.During 90/91 there was a similar downtrend in the Economy which was reeling under recession, but veterans would tell you how they managed it and how it is just a matter of time. But for most IT professionals from Asia specially INDIA this is something very new coming from a closed door Economy where Govt. regulations don't permit the concept of easy hire and easy fire, it surely is a big piece to stomach. IT Professionals are having a time of their life experiencing that not everything is rosy in the land of green pastures. They have come to realize that all is not good in US and all is not bad in India, a new picture which is taking shape in the minds of this new generation Tech pros who will we having this picture in mind when they would be making some global hi-fi decisions.
Now getting back to our main topic of US Economy and impact on the Job market. Volumes have already been spoken and written about it, where tensions seems to mount every day and emotions seem to go out of control with each rising sun.. where speculations seems to me the norm of what in the heck is going to happen today? Would there be a Pink slip on my Desk this morning? Would there be a thank you mail from my manager? etc..
Everybody knows of someone who has been laid off /who has left back for INDIA/ who is struggling to find a job, updating his resumes daily on Monster.com and Dice.com, packing their bags which makes every individual feel what the heck is wrong with the US Economy and that too with in couple of months? things have gone so much hay-way. People think nothing much has changed, people still eat, go out, have fun, spend in shopping, travelling, hotels, still use telephone to make calls, PC at home and for net access then what is changed which has shrunk the Economy so much that it can no longer accommodate 10's of thousands of Software Engineers? The reason seems more complex than a layman can understand which range from sustaining a booming Economy for long is a mirage, Economy is cyclic in fashion, reduction in capital spending, Hyper elated technologies , Rationalization of stock prices, over selling the internet and so on.
But whatever it is it seems this might still take a couple of more quarters and lets hope that 2002 would put the Indian IT Pros back on the US commodity list.
