Change of status from F2 to H1 and SSN

Hi,

I recently changed my status from F2 to H1 and got my approval on Oct 5th. I went with my approval notice to apply for my Social security number and they did accept my application. Now its been almost 7 weeks I did not hear from them and so I went and enquired. This is the reply I got

1. The INS has not updated my change of status on their database and I need to wait until that happens and nobody knows how long it will take.

2. I called up the INS and they asked me to fill G845 & G845S forms and take an appointment using Info pass on USCIS website. Take these forms to the local office at the scheduled time and they can only fix it.

Did anyone experience this problem and any suggestions? I have a job but no SSN. Someone let me know if you experienced this trouble and I dont want to work without a SSN.

You can go to your local SS office and talk to a person, expect long lines.

Already tried that more than a couple of times. No use.
