US Visa : Scheduling an Appointment

 

Scheduling an Interview Appointment for US visa purpose.

All US Visa applicant in India is now being served by VFS ( www.vfs-usa.co.in) . A prior appointment is must to appear for the interview.

VFS offers both online as well as offline appointment scheduling facility.

As per the new process, it is now must to pay the fee before you make your appointment. Fee may only be paid at a designated branch of HDFC Bank. Check more details about Visa Fee.

Note: Indian citizens resident in the USA and applying for a visa( restamping for H1, H4, L1, L2 , F1,F2 etc) to replace an expiring visa can request an appointment at any of the four US consulates in India.

 

Note:

Applicants should use the same passport to purchase their receipt ( Or pay fee) as they will use at the time of interview.
If your passport expires within the next 6 - 12 months It is advised to obtain a new passport prior to purchasing a receipt for a visa interview.

 


Reschedule / Cancel of an Appointment

You can cancel your appointment only two times. After the second cancellation your HDFC Visa Fee Receipt is deactivated for 90 calendar days. You will not be able to book another appointment until the 90 days have passed.
Notes :

1. Your HDFC Visa Fee Receipt can be used to book a visa interview appointment and appear within one year from the date of issuance. The Fee Receipt will expire if you do not actually appear for the interview within one year and you will need to buy a new receipt if you still wish to travel to the U.S.
2.You can cancel your visa interview appointment up to two business days before your appointment unless your interview appointment is scheduled at the U.S. Consulate General, Mumbai. If your appointment is at the U.S. Consulate General, Mumbai you can cancel your appointment up to four business days before the appointment.

NO SHOW applicants

Applicants who fail to appear for their scheduled interview appointment at the U.S. Embassy/ Consulate are considered as 'NO SHOW' applicants. If you are a No-Show, your VFS service charge receipt is deactivated. You will be required to reactivate your fee receipt prior to scheduling a new interview appointment.

Applicant scheduled at the U.S Consulate Mumbai who have failed to submit their documents a minimum of 3 days prior to their interview are not allowed to appear for their interview appointment. These applicants are also considered as ‘No Show’ and must reactivate their fee receipt prior to scheduling a new interview appointment.

Please Note: Your Visa fee receipt or MRV fee receipt is valid for a period of 1 year (365 days) from the date of purchase and entitles you to one appearance at the Embassy / Consulate. You may not purchase a new Visa fee receipt if it is still valid. Please check the validity of the Visa fee receipt before you proceed to schedule a new interview appointment.

Steps to proceed for a 'NO SHOW' applicant to schedule a new appointment:

Visit the nearest VFS visa application centre a minimum of two working days after your scheduled interview along with your original HDFC visa fee receipt. Pay the VFS service charge of Rs 180/-inclusive of service tax @10% and education cess @0.30% per applicant to reactivate your receipt.
Please note: We will be unable to reactivate your fee receipt earlier than as stated.
Return to this website to schedule a new interview appointment within the validity period of the receipt following the same procedure as you did earlier.
Note: You may use the previously created electronic file for form DS-160 and update the necessary information. Any change to the DS-160 will generate a new CEAC barcode. Kindly reprint the confirmation page before scheduling a new appointment.
Report to the U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate where the interview has been scheduled at last 15 minutes prior to the scheduled time along with all the required documents.

Move appointment to later date (Postpone)

You can move your appointment to a later date only once. To move your appointment to later date a second time, first cancel your current appointment and then book a new appointment.

Move appointment to earlier date ( Prepone)

To move your appointment to an earlier date, cancel your current appointment and then book a new appointment.

Emergency Appointment

U.S. Embassy and other Consulates in India do have a provision for applicants to schedule an emergency appointment for Visa Interview based on the urgency to travel to United States. It is essential that you are in possession of the required documentation before you make a request for an Emergency Appointment. If it appears during the visa interview, that you misrepresented the reasons for travel, such facts will be noted on your case file and may adversely influence the outcome of your visa application. Furthermore, if the consular officer determines that you do not have a genuine emergency - as defined below - then he/she will postpone your interview 90 days from the date you appeared under the emergency provision.

Returning Workers
Applicants pertaining to H and L visa renewals who are already working in the U.S. and are returning to their jobs.

Essential Documentation:
Evidence such as a previous visa, form I-797 or I-129 to demonstrate that they are returning to their previously authorized employment in the United States.
A valid employment authorization card showing that they are authorized to work in the United States would also be required.

What is the Rush Service?

This is an optional service by which you may opt to collect your passport across the counter at the US Visa Application Center (VFS) located in the city where you were interviewed. Your passport will be handed across the counter between 15:00 to 17:00 hours on the day it is received from the Consulate. If it is not collected the same evening the passport will be automatically dispatched to you by courier. To avail this service you are required to pay a supplement of Rs. 56/- (inclusive of taxes), payable at the time of taking delivery of the passport.
