How does it work, when I’m enrolling/buying medicare plans from a private insurance company?
The federal government pays the private insurance companies to administer Medicare Advantage Plans for you. You remain a member of Medicare and continue to pay medicare applicable premiums. It’s just that you’re receiving your Medicare benefits through a private insurance company rather than directly from the federal government.
What’s the difference between PDP and MAPD?
PDP stands for Prescription Drug Plan, which a stand-alone Medicare Part D plan, that covers ONLY prescription drugs. It doesn’t cover any other medical expenses.
Whereas MAPD stands for “Medicare Advantage Plan with Prescription Drug Coverage”. MAPD is a medicare approved all in one plan that you can buy from an insurance company, which includes prescription drugs as well as medical services.
I didn’t enroll in a PDP for 2006. Can I sign up for prescription drug coverage for 2007?
Yes. Call 1800.MEDICARE (1800.633.4227) for more information and enrollment or visit www.medicare.gov.
What is a coveage gap in Medicare Part D?
The coverage gap (also called the "donut hole") is the point in the government's basic prescription drug plan where the plan "takes a break" in coverage. This is where, you, the enrollee, pay the full cost for your prescribtion drugs. The coverage gap applies only after you've paid a certain amount of out ofyour pocket for prescription drugs.
