EB-2 India: Retrogression Imminent

EB-2 is a second preference, immigrant visa for the United States employment-based permanent residency. As anticipated in the section D of the Visa Bulletin for November 2014, there is bad news for Indians seeking permanent residence in US with EB-2 visa. The cut-off date retrogresses, from May 1, 2009 to February 15, 2005! Yes, 2005 that is more than 4 years. This is perhaps the result of increase in the demand of EB-2 visas. This giant leap backward is to keep EB-2 in the limit for the fiscal year 2015. This will affect a lot of Indians who are seeking EB-2 visa.

It seems that there is not enough probability of cut-off date moving forward in next few months. As, the retrogression is the result of advanced demand for EB-2 which will not drop-down anyways! A major factor in this anticipated retrogression is the large volume of EB-3 to EB-2 upgrades for Indian-born applicants.

On the other hand, the cutoff date for EB-3 India has moved up from November 15, 2003 to November 22, 2003 by one week.
