‘TATKAL’ service is an ‘Emergency’ service which applicants can avail of for any type of passport service and it is subject to approval from the Consulates of India in USA.
It is a multi-pronged process that first requires you to go through the VFS Global website to seek permission for the tatkal or expedited process of receiving a passport.
The following steps explain how to apply for a tatkal passport:
Step 1
Send an email to VFS Global (tatkal.passport@vfs.com) with the subject line ‘Tatkal Service Required’. The email should have the following details:
- Name of the Applicant
- Passport Number
- Email ID (must be contactable else we will not be able to reach you)
- Contact number (must be contactable else we will not be able to reach you)
In addition, the following documents should be attached to the email:
- Scanned Copy of your Valid Current Passport
- Scanned Copy of any of the following documents to show Legal Status:
Visa page OR Green Card OR EAD OR I – 797
Driver license OR Utility Bill OR State ID OR Rental/Lease Agreement OR Mortgage Deed OR Landline Telephone bill
This is what you need if you are taking a trip.
If and when VFS Global receives an approval from the Consulate, the applicant can apply under Tatkal. You will be informed by email (from tatkal.passport@vfs.com) and proceed with Step 2.
Unless additional information or clearance is required, Tatkal service will be rendered within 2 business days from the date all required documents are received by the Consulate.
