A letter can be presented by the parents and relatives of a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident visiting the United States to the Immigration officer at the Port of Entry requesting to grant permission to stay in the United States a short period. The letter is not mandatory but can be useful for the people whose native language may not be English and just find it difficult to communicate in English.
