Following is a template for a sample letter requesting a visitor visa or tourist visa extension. This template can be modified to each applicant’s specific requirement and submitted to USCIS along with Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic and consequent border closings and travel restrictions, I am unable to return to my home country as per the scheduled date of departure. As a result, I am having to request an extension of stay on my B2 visitor visa.

I am herewith, enclosing a completely filled out Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Non-immigrant Status with all supporting documents for extending my non-immigrant status in the US.
